Hey, Geri here,
I'm the founder of VC Compass, a fundraising advisory helping European founders raise their pre-seed and seed rounds. Before that I spent 5 years as a VC at one of the leading funds in SEE, where I reviewed thousands of ideas, sat through hundreds of pitches and invested in a number of companies.
Follow me on Linkedin for (almost) daily fundraising tips and VC insights.
Now, back to the topic
Most founders think investor updates start the day money hits the bank. But the best founders start sending updates way before they even need money.
So I built 2 templates for you:
Use Template 1 once investors are on your cap table.
Use Template 2 for the investors who haven't backed you yet, but might.
| Potential Investors | Existing Investors | |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Build conviction over time | Report on how the money is doing |
| What's inside | Progress, a few metrics, what's next | All of that, plus lowlights, burn, product, sales, team, asks |
| Tone | Wins and momentum, light on problems | The full picture, including challenges |
| Frequency | Every 1 to 2 months | Monthly |
| Asks | None | One per update |
